Personally I haven't got an acoustic, I've got 2 electric leads and a Bass, I used to have acoustics but found them boring - electrics are easier to play and so much more versatile - However if I was buying an acoustic it would be an Aria or a Fender or anything American...

I dont recommand a cut away for a accoustic. It robs the sound, plus not many songs utilize upper registries on accoustic. For the price range ur asking i say try ebay. I have a simon & Patrick Canadain accoustic...one of the best sounding accoustics ive ever heard...got it for 450 CAD
WWSD? What would stevie do?

As a recently jaded ebayer, I'd suggest bidding only on items which are close enough to you to go view.

I've just got an RG - unwrapped it to find the neck was broken. Hopefully, this is rare.... but it has put me off. First guitar I bought off ebay, and it's screwed! It was cheap though, so life goes on...

Seriously, check it over thoroughly...

Yeah, I think ebay is a bit complicated..I mean you can get either a really good deal , or a horrible deal, and from what my dad sells I can tell you most of the time its a bad deal, and you spend alot more than you should. I was just looking into acoustic electrics actually, just for a beater guitar that I dont have to worry about and i found a Rogue with the single cutaway for 100$. It never occured to me that it hurts the sound like Polera said but for the price i would take the chance. But there are tons on this site....

And I might add that they have a very good habit of getting stuff to you in good time but when I got my electric it took them a month because everyone buys from them....Idk may be better with acoustics...

I have a "folk size" Cort (Earth 72 I believe is the model). It's a solid top (which is a MUST IMHO) and it was $200CDN (maybe $170US). I think Cort's are the total unsung heroes of the guitar world. Really nice playing and nice looking. Fantastic sound as well. Check www.cort.com to see what their cutaway models look like, but you can get them crazy cheap.

IMHO...Ovations are one of the best acoustics. I have always loved the action and the durability. Here is a web page to check out in your price range.

I've got a classical, 6 string, and 12 string acoustics...all have their uses. I've had an Ovation, but I wasn't that impressed with mine. It had high action and sounded its best plugged in. For me I want a guitar that plays and sounds good by itself first. But every guitar is unique to some degree, even within the same brand, so just try it out first. Don't count pawn shops out either.

I suggest a Washburn...a washburn anything...banjo...guitar...nose trumpet...anything they sell. It's all good and higher than my expectations. I bought my first washburn for 100 bucks on musicians friend when i was first starting out and it came with 18:1 gear ratio tuners and it's pretty much my favorite guitar ever. and it was only 100 dollars. If thats their low end model I need to get their high end stuff.

ta-da! the super cheapos: http://www.rondomusic.net/acoustics.html but I really couldn't tell you how good the quality on one of those is... if I were you I'd try to find some reviews on them from www.harmony-central.com and also make sure that, if you decide to get one of those ones, that you get a full sized one, not a 1/2 or 3/4 sized one... unless you are about 3-4 feet tall....

Most all low cost acoustics are made in the Pacific Rim. There are many companies that produce quality instruments from Japan, Korea, and God Forbid, China. (Why don't we just give the country away to them)! Acoustic Guitar magazine web-site will give you reviews of low-cost acoustics. Remember, you will not get solid sides and even solid backs normally at this price line. This will give you a "tin" sound without much bass and lower mid-range sounds. HarmonyCentral.com is a great site for reviews of more guitars than you will want to see. But, once you have decided on a couple, check out this site for reviews of actual purchases and the reviews of the models

However, Alvarez Regent series makes good acoustics in this range as does Yamaha and Fender. They, however, are mostly produced in the above mentioned countries. The best advice I can give you is to find a guitar store in your area, Guitar Center if possible, where they have a wide selection of guitars. Play them, as many as you can because even the same models will sound different. Then to save on the taxes, negotiate a web-site price including the tax. Check MusiciansFriend.com, Music123.com. The guitars will have customer reviews with the listing.

Good Luck! :)
