Hi All,

I have a Spectrum electric guitar and a Guitar Professor Qwik Tune digital tuner. I have both my tone volumes all the way down and my volume on high and my pick up switch is all the way at the bottom.

Here's my problem: I've used the Reference Tuner on the site and I know I should be: E-A-D-G-B-E. When I strum the bottom string (6th string), I get a E on my digital tuner with the green light. I strum the 5th string (second to bottom string), I get a B with a green light.

But when I strum the 4th string, I get a read out of Low E. I turn the tuning pegs here and there, get the green light but I'm still at Low E. Is this right? Am I suppose to look at what letter the read out is giving me? Or just make sure the light is green when I strum that string.

This is what I'm getting

1st String = A (Green Light)
2nd String = G (Green Light)
3rd String = B (Green Light)
4th String = Low E (Green Light)
5th String = B (Green Light)
6th String = E (Green Light)

Any help letting me know what I'm doing wrong would be appreciated!

If the 4th string is reading low E, it may be the string is tuned too big and needs to be tuned down until it reaches the right pitch. The same process for the other strings: tune up or down until right pitch is reached.

The other possibility is the quality of the tuner. If you paid a small amount for it, it may be worth spending a little more for a better quality tuner.

- Why do you have your tone knobs all the way down? Tune it the way you play it.
- Not sure if you are counting the strings right. Bottom string is 1. 6th string is the thickest one (low E).
- The letter should match the note you are playing.

Use a reference pitch to tune to (not sure what this site has, so I'll link a generic one). Your strings should sound the same as this:
http://www.gieson.com/Library/projects/utilities/tuner/

If your guitar sounds OUT OF TUNE (doesn't match the sound of the reference notes)

- Then it is out of tune. Just showing a green light doesn't mean you are in tune. It means you are in tune with the letter that is showing. Green light on C means the string is tuned to C.

If the guitar sounds IN TUNE

- Your tuner is messed up and displaying the wrong notes even though it is in tune

- Your tuner might have the ability to tune to different modes/presets. You might have this option selected and be tuning to a different tuning other than "Standard tuning" which you should be tuning to.
