The tone we'll use is a key element of the iconic sound. For guitars, mostly vintage Fender Stratocasters were used. The single coil pickups contribute to the bright and clear tone.

As far as amplifiers go, Fender Twin Reverbs are typically used for clean clean tones, since they are known for their sparkling clarity. For dirtier tones, a Marshall amp is used for their warm and powerful distortion.

Effects pedals are central to the sound. Key pedals include:

Ibanez WH-10 Wah: Known for its pronounced and expressive sweep.

Electro-Harmonix Big Muff: Provides a thick, saturated fuzz sound.

Boss DS-1 and DS-2 Distortion: These pedals offer a gritty, crunchy
distortion.

Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress Flanger: Adds a lush, sweeping
modulation.

Line 6 DL4 Delay Modeler: Used for creating ambient delays and loops.

In addition to gear, the playing techniques add a big part to the overall sound. We'll see how to use aggressive playing for funk rhythms and dig right in for a big sound, but then use finger picking with a light touch to create dynamics and nuance.
