Hi Christopher,

I have this little handy dandy chord chart hanging on my wall and it shows the A7 with index finger barring strings E,A,and C# and middle fretting G note on the 1st E. They both sound different to me, but I like your version better since it's easier, but is the Chord chart wrong or is it some other version of an A7? Everything else is the same.
