I would think it would be a bit easier on your brain to learn the basics in GuitarTricks on a 6-string, just because you wouldn't have the 7th string there, in the way, never being mentioned or used in the lessons.

Or, if you can just try to follow GT lessons and call the 7th string "off-limits", while you follow the sructured lessons that will help you understand the instrument better.

Then go ahead and incorporate the 7th string as you wish and as it makes sense to you to do so.
