Hi, just started playing 3 months ago. I have an acoustic guitar with metal strings and tuning with a Snark. When I play the high e string one second will read out as an a and then flash e and it never want to stay on e like the other strings no matter how much I try. [br]Am I doing something wrong?

thanks, Rob

It's like the classic break-up line; it's not you, it's me.

It's not you, it's the Snark. It's one of the downsides of the headstock (vibration) styled tuners. I've had Snarks andFender tuners andthey all seem to do it. I actually find that the Snart Super Tight is the worst for that. I'm getting to the point where I am thinking I'll just go back to a chromatic tuner (where you plug your cord in to the tuner) like I did in the old days. Snark's are handy but they are cheap and it does show in things like this.

I've seen many pro's use headstock tuners but I believe they are using more expensive headstock tuners.

You best bet with a Snark is to get it to where it appears in tune andjust strum the high E and B together and if the ring in consonance (sound nice together), you're probably pretty close.

On the other hand, I only use a Snark and I have never had that problem. Nor has my guitar muse who I introduced to Snark and who starting using them with no noticed problems. Still, JeffS65's explanation is interesting.

My first thought was that the string itself that was the issue and then thought it was a tuning peg problem EDIT or the winding of the string on the peg. END EDIT

There's an old guitar quote, who said it first is lost in my memory; "We spend half our time tuning our instruments, the other half playing out of tune."

Good luck, have fun.

"It takes a lot of devotion and work, or maybe I should say play, because if you love it, that's what it amounts to. I haven't found any shortcuts, and I've been looking for a long time."

Sometimes playing the harmonic on the 12th fret makes it easier for the tuner to pick up the note.
