Hi all,

I just started playing guitar with guitar tricks about 3 weeks ago and i just finished the melodies on all six strings on the guitar fundamentals 1 and I'm up to learning the C,G and Am chords.

My my question is since i learned how to play on all six strings should i get tabs online for some of my favorite songs or should I go through all of GF1 and GF2 before I start learning songs?

Hi monkeyman718,

This is a great question. I think you should wait and learn some chords before you jump into learning tabs for your favorite songs, but that's just my advice! I'm glad you're able to read tabs now as they're extremely important in learning guitar. But some songs, even if they sound relatively simple, can be really tough, especially for a beginner. Obviously, you know your skill level better than I do.

One of the first songs I learned was "I can't get no satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones. You can learn the main riff on only one string and it sounds pretty sweet.

You can check it out here: https://www.guitartricks.com/lesson.php?input=23941&s_id=1958

Hope that helps and looking forward to hearing about your progress!

- Billy

Yanks for your reply! I will keep going with the guitar fundamentals 1 then 2. Good job to all the people that made that course it's amazing I'm learning so much and the short videos help keep my attention. How long should I stay on each lessons until I can move on to the next one?

I recommend staying on a lesson until you're comfortable with it, or until you get bored. If you're just not feeling it, it's good to move onto something else. That's the cool thing about Guitar Tricks, you can move around to any lesson you like.
