Can't remember how old I was, but I was in the 5th grade when I started learning. My school decided to start a music program (which only lasted for that year) and my parents thought it would be good to put me in.

I just remember learning the basics like Yankee Doodle and stuff, but I remember that I loved playing and couldn't wait for the next class. In the end, it's up to the kid. They either have the interest or they don't. I would recommend an actual instructor, because that's really the only way for them to learn how to play properly. An instructor is there to fix your mistakes and keep you from forming bad habits.

So basically my view is to get her a good instructor with lessons once a week. Not sure if anyone else has had different opinions or experiences.
