The 2nd string says to tune it down to A flat but that does not sound right when I play along with your lesson.

Hey gerriorc! Yes, the tuning for this song is the guitar down a step and a half from standard tuning. So from low to high : Db Gb B E Ab Db.
Remember, when we say "2nd string" in standard tuning, we mean the B string, not the low A string (which is the 5th string). So in this case, what would normally be the B string is actually tuned down to Ab.
