Generally, with classic rock, all you need is a 100watt Marshall tube and a Gibson Les Paul. Those guys generally didn't use pedals.

However, a crybaby wah was very common, Page never used a distortion pedal. Although he did have a booster pedal that he had on the stage sometimes.

A Pod Pro is much cheaper than buying a vintage 100 watt Marshall and a Les Paul.

Yep, I'm recommending a Line 6 Pod Pro....

If you're using a strat or tele I have found that a "big muff" and a "tube sc
reamer" or any good distortion pedal can get you about any rock sound you want.

Very rarely did Jimmy ever use pedals. Live he had a wah and a channel switch, (towards the end of the 70's he used a flanger/phaser type pedal or possibly a tape deck or something to that effect for "nobody's fault but mine". In the studio he didn't use pedals much either. On Zep 1 he used a booster pedal and a wah. The key to his tone is his LP, Marshall amps, and his micing techniques.

you could try an MXR distortion+, I have one and you can get a range of tones from randy rhoads to led zeppelin to AC/DC.

Very true. This is the most famous setup for just Rock on general. You can also get a Fender Strat as an alternative.
