Not sure if that's what you meant, but Dimebag Darrel (Pantera) replaced his 6th string with a 7th string tuned to Low G, and keeping the first 5 strings as they are and dropped one whole step down... Tuned like this : (Low to high) GGCFAD
He did that on a couple of songs from "The Great Southern Trendkil" album.
