Those string sets are typically more frequently used for triads (& other chord voicings) in some rock, metal, classical.  They are used in pop, but usually as the lower parts of open chords (sometimes with a capo).  So they aren't voiced as frequently in other styles.  There are exceptions of course.  But focusing on the upper string triad voicings will really help you with pop & R&B styles.
