The terms are largely interchangeable. I suppose you could make some distinction like:

A guitarist is more accomplished at playing guitar than a "mere" guitar player. Or a guitarists plays guitar professionally.

But any strict defintion of guitarist is "a person that plays guitar". In other words, a guitarist is a guitar player. And a guitar player is a guitarist. :)[br][br]
