The 2 top songs that come to mind that used to be hard for me to play was Paganini's 24th Caprice and Steve Vai's Sisters. I can now play both the way they are supposed to play. I'm also at the moment relearning Yngwie's Trilogy suite then I'll be off to learning his blues solo that he plays live after that wich I have never tried to play but
I have the tab for it.


Also in the last month I have been seriously learning finger picking (Classical style) something that I have been lacking but have always wanted to do but never really practiced. I still have my finger picking lessons from a teatcher I had years ago and have been using those as practice. I also bought the book

The pices start of from the easiest to pretty difficult in technique.

I play my normal guitar playing during the day and practice classical at night where no one will be disturbed.
Most of my electric work is done with my band. I'll practice electric works (Songs when I have the time that i have always considered difficult, this is of course 2nd to what i do to freshen up our original songs).
So basically what I'm saying is the best way to improve your playing and or to get out of a rut is to play things that are difficult for you.
