Hi there Goofball,

I remember when I was first learning guitar, I thought F major must have surely been invented by some evil overlord. Imagine the nerve of that guy!

When I work with adult beginners trying to teach their hands to do new things, I sometimes suggest that in certain contexts, and F Major 7th chord can be a reasonable substitution for an F chord.

The fingering for F Maj. 7 is this: XX3210

Keep in mind that you are altering the chord's chemistry by leaving that high E string open. This is not an "easier F", it is a variation of an F. In certain folk, pop, rock, and country contexts, it can actually sound kind of nice.

Let me know how this works for you -
Best wishes, Lisa
