Unless you get an Eventide, pitch shifting WILL give you a slight, but noticable delay, wich will make you sound like crap basically.
If you want to create a thicker sound, try getting an EQ, and boost the low mids. Other thing you can try is a chorus, or a delay set to max. 30ms(more will make the delay noticable, below 30 it'll create a fuller sound).
