deffintly not the greatest riff of all time but the intro to welcome home is just soo awesome

I think one of the best solos of all time is sweet chind of mine from gnr. Its so good. Another one of my favs is slither fromvelvet revolver.

Not that I like the riff at all, but the greatest riff of all time would have to be the base of "Smoke On The Water," namely because everyone knows it (even those who don't even play guitar can play it).

Riff Would have to be: Crazy Train by Ozzy guitarist was Randy Rhoads at the time

Solo Would have to be:Sweet Child Of Mine (GnR) orrr Call of Ktulu (Metallica)

I have a few votes. One is the lead line from "Slow Ride" by Foghat.

I can think of 3 Pink Floyd sections that I LOVE. The solos from "Comfortably Numb" and "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2," but I think my fave is the intro to "Shine on You Crazy Diamond."

And finally, I grew up on old U2 (everything before the Achtung Baby album, from there on I really don't care for them), so I'll vote for just about anything The Edge does on the early albums. This is just a sentimental vote, but, I have to mention it!!!

Gee Tom, we may be related or something. Major props for the nod to Foghat. A band that has been essentially forgotten but were HUGE back in the day. Grand Funk Railroad is another one. HUGE band that most of the youngester have never heard. Funny how that works.

OK, All, I'm going to go obscure on you for a few moments.

The best guitar soloist I've ever seen live. Fantastic guitarist whom almost no one knows because he went into Christian music. Phil Keagy.

In the 70's he put out an album with a group called The Second Chapter of Acts and a Band Called David. The album is called "How the West Was One" There are 2 incredible songs on the album that I've seen him play live. The first is called "Rejoice," where he goes off and solos for about 7 minutes or so. I saw him play it live back in 1982, and he was doing some awesome stuff, like hitting delay and a chord on one guitar, then picking up another to play over what he had just played. Pretty amazing.

The second song is called "Time," in which he gets into a duel with the keyboard player. I saw him play that one, again in the early 80's, at Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa. Really brought the house down. I've seen some pretty good bands live, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone who matches Phil for guitar virtuosity . It's a shame that more people don't know him because he went into Christian music.

Best guitar riff is hands down Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne with Randy Rhodes.

Best guitar solo is tough... I'm thinking either Heartbreaker by Led Zepplin or Whole Lotta Rosie by AC/DC.
