We had a MG100(something or other) half stack in our studio and it sounded alright. It was nothing special though.... just a solid state with the British purr. If you have some nice effects pedals to run through it it would be perfect... but if you don't... you're going to find your tone very limited. The MG series is pretty much the base model for Marshall... you can't find a cheaper Marshall amp. But nonetheless it carries the Marshall badge. It's an average amp that would hold you over. I was unimpressed with its tone once I started comparing it side by side to our other amps. I would say it would work great as a first amp though and would recommend it for beginners. The only complaint I really had about it was the speakers... I would take out the stock ones and but in some Celestions.
